The expansion of Devendra Fadnavis’ new cabinet in Maharashtra will take place on Sunday, December 15. The swearing-in ceremony of the ministers will be held in Nagpur. Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the Chief Minister on December 5 after the Mahayuti got an absolute majority in the state. Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers, but the cabinet expansion was on hold.

Sources say that in the first phase of cabinet expansion, 33 to 35 ministers of the Mahagathbandhan will take oath. According to sources, 23 MLAs from BJP, 13 MLAs from Shiv Sena Shinde group and 9 MLAs from NCP Sharad Pawar group are likely to be sworn in as ministers in the new cabinet.

There can be a maximum of 43 ministers in the Council of Ministers in Maharashtra, including the CM. According to sources, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is going to have two important portfolios like Home and Finance. Meanwhile, amid the suspense over the cabinet formation, Eknath Shinde has arrived to meet CM Devendra Fadnavis at Sagar Bungalow.

The series of meetings continued throughout the day

Earlier, BJP’s Maharashtra unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule held a meeting with several leaders to finalize the cabinet formation. He met Deputy Chief Minister Shinde and Ajit Pawar separately and discussed about it. He also held a meeting with other party leaders.

On the other hand, the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature will begin from December 16. This winter session is going to last for a week. During this winter session, the newly elected MLAs will be sworn in. Along with this, elections will also be held for the posts of Speaker to Deputy Speaker.

Suspense over cabinet expansion ends

Let us tell you that the results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections were declared on November 23. In that election, the Mahayuti returned to power. The Mahayuti won 230 out of 288 seats in the state. In this, BJP won 132 seats, Shiv Sena 57 and Pawar’s NCP 41 seats.

Since then, there was a tussle between Eknath Shinde and BJP for the CM post. But later it was agreed to make Devendra Fadnavis the CM, but there is still suspense about the ministers and the date for the cabinet expansion has now been decided. This expansion will take place on December 15.
