Mahendragarh: Three people including the school headmaster and the bus driver arrested in the bus accident case in Mahendragarh district of Haryana, State Education Minister Seema Trikha issued a show cause notice to the school.

Mahendragarh Bus Accident: Six students died and about 20 were injured when a bus carrying school children collided with a tree and overturned in Mahendragarh district of Haryana on Thursday. Police gave this information. Police said that three people including the school principal and the bus driver have been arrested. It is said that the bus driver was drunk at the time of the accident.

State Education Minister Seema Trikha inquired about the well being of the injured students in the hospitals. He said that a show cause notice has been sent to the private school asking how it was open despite it being a holiday on the occasion of Eid.

The incident took place near Unhani village in Kanina at around 8.30 am when the bus was going to G L Public School carrying around 40 children of primary to secondary classes.

Police said that driver Dharmendra was driving the bus fast and he lost control of the bus and it overturned after hitting a tree. Mahendragarh Superintendent of Police Arsh Verma said that six students have died in this accident while about 20 students are injured.

Police said the driver was arrested from the scene and his medical examination confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol. The police have also arrested the school headmistress Deepti. Another school official Hoshiar Singh has also been arrested.

There was a heart-wrenching scene at the incident site where school bags, shoes, water bottles and copy-books were scattered on the road. After the incident, hearing the screams of the children, passers-by ran to help and pulled the children out of the badly damaged bus.

An injured student told reporters that the driver was driving the bus at high speed and lost control of the bus, causing it to crash into a tree. “The bus driver seemed drunk,” he said.

Advocate Mandeep Singh, resident of Kheri Talwana village, claimed that when some villagers came to know that the bus driver was drunk, they stopped the bus but the headmaster intervened and requested them to leave him and promised that the driver would be changed on Friday. . However, the bus met with an accident after a few minutes, he said.

Mahendragarh Deputy Commissioner Monica Gupta said that the private school was open on the day of Eid and the District Education Officer has sent a proposal to the state government to cancel the recognition of the school.

State Transport Minister Aseem Goyal said that after registering the FIR, the state government has ordered an investigation into the incident. He also directed the officials to check the fitness of all the school buses. He said that fine was imposed on the bus recently because the driver did not have some documents and still using it shows a clear lapse on the part of the school authorities.

Expressing grief over the incident, President Draupadi Murmu said that the death of school children is heart-wrenching. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is extremely painful. Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “My condolences are with all the families who lost their children in this accident. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured children. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible help to the victims and their families.

Police said that the school was open on a holiday in violation of the rules. Moreover, the school authorities were informed about the drinking habit of the bus driver. Officials said that some parents also brought to the notice of the school on Thursday that Dharmendra was under the influence of alcohol.

According to officials, an assistant secretary in the District Transport cum Secretary office of Mahendragarh has also been suspended in this case. He said that Additional Transport Commissioner (Road Safety) has been directed to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the incident and trace those responsible.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Randeep Surjewala expressed deep grief over the incident.

A doctor at a hospital near the crash site told reporters that four children were brought dead and one died later after being put on a ventilator. 20 injured children were taken to this hospital. Officials said that after initial treatment, the injured children were taken to government hospitals and other medical institutions.

Chief Minister Saini said on ‘X’, “I am hurt by the accident of school bus in Kanina, Mahendragarh. My condolences are with the bereaved families who have lost their innocent children. The local administration is ready to help the injured. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed condolences to all the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda said this news is “sad”. Education Minister Trikha said that this was a very painful and sad incident. He said, “A girl has suffered a head injury.”
