President Mohammad Muizzu, who came to power in Maldives by giving the slogan of ‘India Out’, has now started changing his tone for India. Muizzu, who is considered a supporter of China, has given a big clarification about his statement. He said, India Out has never been my agenda. The presence of foreign troops in our country was a problem for the island country. He said this on Thursday in the Deans Leadership Series program of Princeton University in America. Muizzu has reached America to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Maldives news portal Adhadhu.com has quoted him as saying that we have never been against any country. The people of Maldives were facing problems due to the presence of foreign troops in their country. The people of Maldives do not want even a single foreign soldier to stay in their country.
What did Muizzu say to India?
Relations between India and Maldives had become tense since November last year. All this happened when Muizzu took over as the President of Maldives. Muizzu had asked India to call back about 90 Indian military personnel operating 3 aviation platforms. After this, India called back its military personnel by May 10. In their place, civilian personnel were deployed to operate Dornier aircraft and two helicopters.
I will not tolerate anyone’s insult
Now the tone of Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu is changing. Along with giving clarification on the election slogan, he also said that he had taken action against his deputy ministers for insulting India’s Prime Minister Modi on social media. No one should say such a thing. I will not tolerate anyone’s insult. Be it a leader or a common man. Every person has a dignity.
In which case did Muizzu take action against the leaders?
Earlier this year, the deputy ministers of the Youth Ministry of Maldives had posted insulting posts against PM Modi on social media. After this, they were suspended. India had raised this matter strongly. In fact, after Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, his post was criticized by the Deputy Ministers of Maldives.
These leaders said that this was an attempt by India to present Lakshadweep as an alternative tourist destination to Maldives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lakshadweep in January to inaugurate several projects.
