Manipur: Chief Minister N Biren Singh spoke about the current situation in the state after the violence broke out in the state and the MLAs not attending the meeting, dismissed speculations about his resignation and imposition of President’s rule in the state

After the violence broke out in Manipur, many questions are being raised on the government. State CM Biren Singh came out for the first time after the violence. He said that he is the Chief Minister of all the communities of the state except illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. In recent times, violence broke out in Manipur and NDA allies have withdrawn their support from the Biren government. Due to this, questions were being raised that he might leave the post of Chief Minister, but Biren Singh has rejected all such speculations.

10 suspects were killed in an encounter with CRPF personnel in Jiribam district of Manipur. After which the police were looking for women and children of the Meitei community. After finding their bodies, violence broke out in the state. The first incident of ethnic conflict in Manipur came to light on 3 May 2023. Since then, a total of 240 people from both the communities Kuki-Meitei have died.

I am not the Chief Minister of illegal immigrants – N Biren Singh

Since the beginning of the violence, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been opposing his resignation. At one time he had offered to resign, but that one female supporter tore his resignation. After the allies withdrew their support, once again the pressure on Biren Singh to resign has increased. After the violence broke out, the CM said, I am the elected Chief Minister of Manipur and represent all the people of the state. Whose leader I am. I am here to protect them, but I am not the Chief Minister of illegal immigrants. When asked if he has lost the trust of the Kuki community, he said, I am not the Chief Minister of those who bring drugs into India.

N Biren Singh also rejected the demand to impose President’s rule in the state. He said that the current government in Manipur has the mandate of the people. The government is working towards restoring peace. But the opposition is in cahoots with the drug mafia and illegal immigrants. The opposition thinks it has a chance to come back to power and that is why it is demanding President’s rule. The state government will work with the central government to find these miscreants, terrorists. It will bring normalcy in the state once again.

He further said that as the violence has increased in recent weeks, the Center has sent 70 additional companies of paramilitary personnel – about 9,000 soldiers – to the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has chaired two special meetings regarding the Manipur violence, and has emphasized on normalizing the situation.

The Chief Minister dismissed the speculations

The NPP has withdrawn its support from the government on Sunday. Since then the market of speculation is hot. On all these speculations, the Chief Minister said that our government is stable and we have the required numbers, but this is not the time to talk about numbers. In the phase we are going through, it is possible that some people have left, but we will come out of it strongly. This is not the time to do politics, I had held that meeting to find ways to save my people and to take feedback from the MLAs. He further said that the Center is monitoring Manipur round the clock, and has also started talks with all the MLAs to bring peace.

‘This act is against humanity’

The CM assured that we will continue to take every necessary step to ensure security. We all should strongly condemn such barbaric violence. The killing of innocent women and children is a crime against humanity. Such acts can never be justified. Together we will overcome this principle and move towards a peaceful future.

Chief Minister Biren Singh said that the violence is because the drug mafia, illegal migrant groups who have been badly affected by our government, want the violence to continue so that their work continues because before the violence, their illegal activities have been badly affected due to the government. We were the first to get the biometric information of the people. We are also being targeted because we have closed the main route of the drug mafia.
