Tension in Manipur has once again reached its peak. On Sunday also, a violent mob vandalized the ancestral house of BJP MLA Kongkham Robindro in Imphal. A day earlier, on Saturday, a violent mob had resorted to violence and attacked the houses of several MLAs and ministers. Many vehicles were also set on fire. Internet is already banned in 6 districts of the state.
PTI quoted the police as saying that the mob attacked Robindro’s house in Mayang Imphal and demanded to meet him, but he was not present at home. Therefore, his father told the members of the mob that whatever message they give, he will convey it to his MLA son. The police claimed that the mob wanted to know the stand of the BJP MLA regarding the recent developments in the state.
On Saturday too, the mob had attacked the houses of MLAs and ministers
Earlier on Saturday, a mob had vandalised and burnt a part of the MLA’s residence in Laphupat Tera in Imphal West, one of the 5 districts of Imphal Valley. An indefinite curfew has been imposed in the area after people attacked the residences of three state ministers and six MLAs.
Violence erupted after the bodies of 6 people were found
A situation of tension arose in Manipur when the bodies of 3 women and three children were found in Jiribam district, creating a sensation. As soon as this news reached the people, the furious mob went on a violent protest. After this, the angry mob attacked the residences of three state ministers and six MLAs on Saturday.
Amit Shah’s big meeting in Delhi
On the other hand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reviewed the security situation in Manipur and directed top security officials to take all possible steps to ensure peace in the state. According to sources, the Home Minister held this meeting immediately after returning from Maharashtra after cancelling his election rallies. In this meeting, he instructed the officials to take every possible step. It is believed that Shah will hold another big meeting with top officials on Monday as well.
NPP withdraws support from Biren government
Amid the fresh violence in the state, Manipur’s N Biren Singh government has also suffered a major setback. The National People’s Party (NPP) announced withdrawal of support from the Biren Singh government. The NPP said that the current government has completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy. However, the withdrawal of support by the NPP is not going to pose any threat to the Biren Singh government.
