Manipur violence: Violence has erupted again in Manipur. There was heavy firing there on Tuesday (January 30). Two people have died during the disturbance, while five people, including the former youth president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are reported to have been injured. If police sources are to be believed, the death toll may increase.
In the report of the English newspaper The Indian Express, quoting official sources, it was said that the firing started at around 2.30 pm on Tuesday (January 30) and continued for several hours. The two killed during the firing were identified as 33-year-old Nongthombam Michael and 25-year-old Meesnam Khaba. The bodies of both were taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences on the evening of 30 January.

According to police sources, this firing took place in Kautruk village of Imphal West district of the state. At least one person was also reported missing after the firing incident. During the violence, Barish Sharma, who was the Youth President of BJP in Manipur, was also injured and was taken to the hospital.

It was also told in the newspaper report that at least nine people have died in the violence that broke out in Manipur in the last one month. Two police officers posted in violence-hit areas were also among those killed. More than 180 people have lost their lives and more than 3000 have been injured in the violence that started in the state last year on 3 May 2022. Thousands of people were also displaced by the violence, while the state has witnessed intermittent incidents of violence for more than eight months despite the deployment of at least 60,000 central security forces personnel.
