Many districts of West Bengal and Odisha are on alert due to cyclonic storm ‘Dana’. Cyclone Dana is currently moving towards coastal Odisha. This cyclone may hit the Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port coasts of Odisha. It will bring heavy rains and storms in the state on Friday morning. Cyclone Dana will cause heavy rains with strong winds in the southern part of West Bengal and coastal areas of Odisha. Half of the population of Odisha is at risk of being affected due to this storm.
3 to 4 lakh people have been evacuated
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reviewed the preparations of the state government. CM Majhi said that till Wednesday evening only 30 percent of the people living in the identified ‘danger zone’ or about 3-4 lakh people could be evacuated. The process of evacuating people from all danger zones will continue on Thursday morning.
The effect will be visible from tonight itself
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cyclone Dana may hit between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port on Friday morning. However, Cyclone Dana is likely to hit only between 8 pm on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Winds will blow at a speed of 120 KM
IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that the maximum speed is likely to be around 120 kmph during the landfall process. He said, ‘Therefore heavy rain, wind and storm waves will peak during the landfall time. Which is between the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25.
Sea waves will rise up to 2 meters high
When Cyclone Dana hits Odisha, the state may have to face many crises. Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in Odisha and West Bengal. Along with this, sea waves up to 2 meters high are also likely to rise.
High tide will last for about four hours
According to IMD sources, the wind speed in Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts will be 100-110 kmph. Which can increase to 120 kmph. Also, there will be extremely heavy rains during the landfall and high tide in the sea for about four hours.
SDRF-NDRF teams alert
Seeing the impact of the cyclone in West Bengal, Governor CV Anand Bose said, ‘We are going through a period of crisis at this time. Cyclone Dana is approaching, but in Bengal we have faced many storms and we will face it too and for this the SDRF and NDRF teams have been alerted.
Guidelines issued
The governor appealed to the people and said that please follow all the guidelines issued by the government and the Disaster Management Authority. Follow the instructions given by them. All the disaster management machinery of the state government and the Government of India are fully prepared to fight Cyclone Dana.
