On the completion of 150 years of the Meteorological Department, the Government of India is going to organize the ‘Akhand Bharat’ program. Invitations have also been sent to neighboring countries that were part of undivided India for this seminar to be held on January 14 at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. Pakistan will participate in it but Bangladesh has refused to attend this seminar.
Apart from Pakistan-Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal have been invited for this seminar. Pakistan has confirmed its participation but Bangladesh has refused it. Mominul Islam, acting director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said that the Indian Meteorological Department has invited us for this event but we are not going to it.
150th anniversary of IMD on January 15, 2025
Mominul Islam said that it is a responsibility to limit non-essential foreign travel at government expense, so we are not going to this program. The India Meteorological Department will celebrate its 150th anniversary on January 15, 2025. The IMD was established after disastrous weather-related incidents. Initially, its headquarters was in Kolkata. After this, its headquarters shifted to Shimla in 1905, Pune in 1928 and Delhi in 1944. The IMD was established in 1875 during British colonial rule.
