Media outlets and the ruling party declared Claudia Sheinbaum the winner of the Mexican presidential election after voting was completed on Sunday.
Results from television outlets NMAS and El Financiero show Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory, although the outlets have not yet given the figures. Mario Delgado, the chief of the ruling Morena party, announced in front of a crowd of supporters in Mexico City that Sheinbaum had won by a huge margin.
Who is the first female president of Mexico?
Sheinbaum, who is going to become the country’s first female president, is a scientist, engineer and former mayor of Mexico City. Sheinbaum is considered close to current President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. She is very impressed with his populist ideology and has promised to pursue his populist policies during the election campaign.
The second female candidate contesting against Sheinbaum was Xochitl Galvez, a businesswoman and former senator, who came in second place in this election. The third male candidate, Jorge Alvarez, came in third.

A councilor candidate Jorge Huerta Cabrera was shot dead at an election rally on Friday, after which the number of murders of candidates before voting has gone up to 37. After Cabrera’s death, this election has become the election with the highest number of murders in the country. 36 candidates were killed in the 2021 election.
