Mission Chandrayaan-4: The Union Cabinet has approved the new lunar mission Chandrayaan-4, with the participation of industry and academia, within 36 months of the approval of the mission, samples from the moon will be brought to Earth

Chandrayaan-4 Missions: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (18 September 2024) approved the new lunar mission Chandrayaan-4, which aims to develop the technologies required to land Indian astronauts on the Moon and bring them back safely to Earth. A statement said that the Chandrayaan-4 mission will develop the basic technology to land Indian astronauts on the Moon (by the year 2040) and bring them back safely to Earth.

How much money will be spent

A statement issued by the central government said, “Key technologies required for joining/detaching from the space station, landing of the spacecraft, safe return to Earth, lunar sample collection and analysis will be demonstrated. The statement said that a total amount of Rs 2,104.06 crore is required for the technology demonstration of the Chandrayaan-4 mission.

It said that the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will be responsible for the development and launch of the spacecraft. This mission will be completed within 36 months of approval with the participation of industry and academia. The statement said that all the important technologies related to it have been envisaged to be developed indigenously.

Samples from the moon will be brought to Earth

After getting approval from the Union Cabinet, moon rocks and soil will be brought to Earth. Apart from this, the Cabinet has approved the extension of the Venus orbit mission, Gaganyaan Chandrayaan-4 mission. The Cabinet has approved the next generation launch vehicle capable of carrying heavy weight. Under this, a payload of 30 tonnes will be installed in the lower orbit of the Earth.

Unlike many previous missions, the Chandrayaan-4 mission has challenges. It will include the most powerful rocket system used by India so far. This mission includes several launches, after which the module will be assembled in space.
