Mission Mausam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Meteorological Department and launched ‘Mission Mausam’, know how it will be beneficial

Mission Mausam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched ‘Mission Mausam’ on the occasion of the 150th Foundation Day of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) with the aim of making the country a ‘smart nation’ to face every weather and climate. Attending the function organized at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, the Prime Minister also released a commemorative coin on the 150th Foundation Day of IMD and the IMD Vision-2047 document for meteorological adaptation and climate change adaptation.

It includes plans for weather forecasting, weather management and climate change mitigation. Earlier, the Prime Minister also visited an exhibition based on the achievements of IMD at Bharat Mandapam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this in his address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Meteorological Department, said, “The progress of scientific institutions of any country shows its awareness towards science. Research and innovation in scientific institutions is a part of the nature of the new India. Therefore, in the last 10 years, the infrastructure and technology of IMD has also developed unprecedentedly. In order to make India prepared for every weather condition in the future, to make India a climate smart nation, we have also launched ‘Mission Mausam’.”

He further said, “Meteorology is the most important strength of any country’s disaster management capacity. To minimize the impact of natural disasters, we need to maximize the efficiency of meteorology. India has consistently understood its importance. Today we are succeeding in turning the direction of those disasters which were earlier left as destiny.

Many sectors including agriculture, disaster management, defense will benefit

This ambitious program with an outlay of Rs 2,000 crore in two years will be implemented mainly by the Indian Meteorological Department, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting. Mission Mausam will directly benefit many sectors like agriculture, disaster management, defense, environment, aviation, water resources, power, tourism, shipping, transport, energy and health. Also, it will help in making data based decisions in areas like urban planning, road and rail transport and environmental monitoring. will also increase the process.
