Preparations have begun to increase the salaries and allowances of MLAs in Madhya Pradesh after nine years. Taking steps in this direction, the government has formed a committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla. This committee will meet on November 11th and prepare a report comparing salaries and allowances with those of other states. According to sources, the Finance Department has also begun preliminary deliberations on this matter.
Recently, a letter from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to the central government surfaced, stating that the state government has a debt of 72,000 crore rupees, which requires the central government to purchase wheat and paddy. Despite this, plans are still underway to increase the salaries of MLAs.
Allowances currently amount to up to 75,000 rupees per month
Currently, Madhya Pradesh MLAs receive a total salary and allowances of approximately 75,000 rupees per month. This includes constituency allowances, telephone, medical expenses, and other facilities. However, in states like Maharashtra, Telangana, and Rajasthan, this amount has reached 2.5 to 3 lakh rupees. In light of this disparity, the committee is now preparing a proposal for a fresh increase.
Report to be submitted to the Chief Minister
Once the committee’s report is prepared, it will be presented to the Chief Minister. After receiving the approval of the Council of Ministers, the proposal will be presented in the Assembly. It is expected that after the new system is implemented, not only will the salaries of MLAs increase, but the allowances of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and ministers may also be revised.
‘MLAs’ salaries are less than those of peons’
A committee has been formed to increase the salaries of MLAs and the pensions of former MLAs. Committee member and BJP MLA Ajay Bishnoi said that today, MLAs’ salaries are less than those of government peons, while MLAs’ expenses and responsibilities are high, making it difficult to survive on this salary. Therefore, the salaries of MLAs should be increased.
‘An increase in the salaries of MLAs is necessary for the public’
Regarding the proposal for a salary increase for MLAs, BJP leader Ajay Singh Yadav said that increasing the salaries of MLAs is necessary for the public’s sake. This will ensure they work for the public. The proposal will only be approved after thorough discussions.
