MP Court: In Madhya Pradesh, the court has sentenced the rapist to death while hearing the case of raping and murdering two innocent sisters.

MP Rape Case: In the special court of Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, the man convicted of rape and murder of two innocent sisters has been sentenced to death. The court of Special Judge Kavita Ivanati has sentenced Girdhari Sonwane, a resident of Varasivani, who was found guilty of rape and murder of two innocent sisters and has also imposed a fine along with death sentence. The special court considered this case to be in the rarest of rare category and said that the culprit should be hanged till his life comes to an end.

Special Public Prosecutor Shashikant Patil presented the case on behalf of the prosecution. He argued that on April 4, 2022, at 10 am, two innocent real sisters were found dead in a canal located in village Chitkadevri, police post Mahkepar, police station Tirodi, district Balaghat. Their ages were three and five years and 11 months respectively. Police investigation revealed that she was murdered after rape. Her father filed a report, stating that she had gone to visit relatives when the incident happened. Whereas, the wife had gone to pick Mahua.

Court sentenced to death

Police investigation revealed that the accused Girdhari Sonawane had enmity with the family of the deceased girls. He suspected that this family practiced witchcraft. Therefore, the accused took both the innocent girls on his motorcycle and took them towards the canal in the forest. Where he raped both the girls and then with the intention of hiding the crime, he murdered the girls. He threw the bodies of both of them in the canal. Statements of 23 witnesses were recorded during the trial in the special court of Balaghat. After considering the evidence, the court found the accused Girdhari Sonwane guilty and sentenced him to the maximum punishment of death.

A similar case was seen last year in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where an maternal uncle raped a minor girl after calling her to play. In this case, the court found the maternal uncle guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Along with this, the court had also ordered to give Rs 2 lakh to the victim. Reacting to this decision, former MP CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan had said that justice has been done by giving double life imprisonment to the accused. He had said that those who misbehave with sisters and daughters in the state will be given the harshest punishment.
