MP GOVT: After the death of 11 children due to kidney failure in Chhindwara, the Madhya Pradesh government banned Coldrif cough syrup.

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has banned the sale of “Coldrif” cough syrup. This action was taken following the deaths of 11 children in Chhindwara due to kidney failure. According to officials, samples of the syrup contained 48.6% of the highly toxic substance, diethylene glycol.

Officials stated that a sample of the syrup was tested by a government drug analyst at a drug testing laboratory in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu Drug Control Directorate had declared this sample “not of standard quality.”

The Madhya Pradesh government took this action in the wake of the deaths of 11 children in Chhindwara district. Kidney failure has been reported as the cause of death for all of these children. According to local officials, 10 of these deaths were reported in the Parasia subdivision alone since September 7.

Compensation announced for the families of the deceased children
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased children. A statement issued by the CMO said, “The deaths of children in Chhindwara district after consuming Coldrif cough syrup are extremely saddening. Following the investigation report, its sale has been completely banned in Madhya Pradesh. The families of the deceased children will be provided financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh each.”

“This syrup was manufactured in a factory in Kanchipuram”
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had announced a ban on ‘Coldrif’ cough syrup on Saturday. He said on the social media platform X, “The deaths of children in Chhindwara due to Coldrif syrup are extremely saddening. The sale of this syrup has been banned throughout Madhya Pradesh. Other products of the company that manufactured the syrup are also being banned.” He explained that the syrup was manufactured in a factory in Kanchipuram and following the incident, the Madhya Pradesh government has requested the Tamil Nadu government to conduct an investigation.
