MP High Court Justice Retirement: Usually farewell ceremonies on the occasion of retirement are emotional but cordial, but the farewell of Justice Duppala Venkat Ramana of Madhya Pradesh High Court turned into an extraordinary moment. A moment that raised deep questions on the sensitivity, transparency and humanity of the judiciary. Even though he was able to deliver the speech in a steady voice, the pain and contempt in his words were clearly felt.
He said, “God neither forgives nor forgets.” These words of his were not just an expression of faith, but a painful protest of a judge resonating against the injustice meted out by the system. He alleged that he was transferred from Andhra Pradesh High Court to Madhya Pradesh High Court with malicious intent, while he had opted to go to Karnataka so that his wife could get better treatment.
He said that his wife is suffering from PNES (Paroxysmal Non-Epileptic Seizures) and brain-related complications after Covid-19. The Justice said that he had given written applications to the Supreme Court twice in this regard on 19 July and 28 August 2024, but neither did he get any reply nor was his request accepted.
Order issued to harass – Justice Raman
In his address, he said with great sorrow, “I was asked for options, I chose Karnataka so that my wife could be treated at NIMHANS. But my humanitarian plea was ignored.” He said that the transfer smacks of revenge and this order was issued to harass him.
He had also appealed to the then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but there was no hearing. He also said, “I am happy to satisfy his ego. He is now retired. God will give him the fruits of his deeds.” However, dignity and self-respect remained in his speech.
Mentioned the words of Martin Luther King Jr.
Justice Raman gave a glimpse of the struggles of his life and told that as a first generation lawyer he has faced poverty, conflict, and social inequalities. Quoting the words of Martin Luther King Jr., he said, “The true identity of a person is not in times of comfort and convenience, but in times of struggle and controversy.” He said that while being in the judiciary, he always focused on the goal of providing justice to the common man. He said that he had to face conspiratorial surveillance, but ultimately truth prevails.
Got immense love and support in MP High Court – Duppala Venkat Raman
