Mumbai: Case of damaging stairs during renovation and cleaning of mythologically and historically important Banganga Sarovar, order to file case against contractor

A case of damaging the stairs during the renovation and cleaning of the mythologically and historically important Banganga Sarovar in Mumbai has come to light. It is alleged that the contractor has bulldozed the stairs of the lake. On getting information about the matter, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and local MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha inspected the spot along with Mumbai Police and Municipal Corporation officials. He has ordered to register a case against the contractor.

Let us tell you that Banganga Sarovar is mentioned in Ramayana, it also has historical and spiritual importance. There is a lot of anger among the people over the damage caused in the name of renovation of this heritage. It is being told that the contract for the renovation of Banganga Sarovar was given. During this, the contractor has damaged the stairs of the lake by bulldozing them. On receiving the information, Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who reached the spot, spoke to Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar over the phone.

Orders to file case against the contractor

He has asked to file an FIR against the contractor for damaging the heritage. He has also directed the municipal officials to blacklist the contractor’s company. On the other hand, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials have asked the concerned officials of Mumbai Municipal Corporation to carry out repairs within the next 72 hours. Along with this, ASI has decided that a local committee will be formed to prevent such incidents.

The committee will investigate

This committee will monitor the renovation related works. On the instructions of ASI, a committee of Mumbai Municipal Corporation officials has also been formed. This committee will investigate the matter in 15 days and submit the report to ASI.
