DIG asked to be cautious

Maharashtra Cyber DIG Yashasvi Yadav confirmed this cyber threat and said that these departments have not taken necessary steps for cyber security, which is a matter of concern. In this matter, we have asked these divisions to be cautious.

Cyber criminals can target them anytime

According to the information received from Maharashtra Cyber Cell, the biggest reason for the threat of cyber attack on these government departments is the leak of their data on the darknet. In fact, all the credentials of these departments are currently available on the darknet and cyber criminals can target them at any time using these credentials. Investigation has also revealed that Pakistani and Chinese hackers are stealing the leaked data on the darknet, which can become a big threat in the future.

Change email passwords from time to time

Maharashtra is the most targeted by cyber attackers. In view of this threat, Maharashtra Cyber has asked these departments to change their email passwords from time to time, take various steps including cyber security audit and compliance, forensic investigation, risk assessment, application testing, disaster recovery plan.

It is known that some departments of the Maharashtra government have already been cyber attacked a few years ago, including ransomware attack on JNPT Mumbai in 2017, Cosmos Bank cyber robbery of Rs 100 crore in 2018, extensive cyber attack on MCEB server in 2020 and major ransomware attack on MIDC server in 2021.

Changes in Cyber Security Corporation

To strengthen cyber security in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra government has transformed Maharashtra Cyber into Cyber Security Corporation. After this, all corporate companies in Maharashtra will be required to conduct mandatory cyber audit once a year, which will be done by the Cyber Security Corporation.

Corporate companies that do not get cyber audit done will be fined Rs 25,000 per day. With the increasing number of cyber attacks on corporate entities, the move is aimed at protecting sensitive business data and preventing cyber fraud.
