A call center in Mumbai that duped American citizens has been busted. The Crime Branch Unit of Mumbai Police has arrested 4 people in this case. According to preliminary information, Crime Branch Unit 12 of Mumbai Police had secretly received information that American citizens were being duped through a fake call center in Borivali area of Mumbai. The call center was duping American citizens by telling them that there was a problem in their Microsoft Windows. Based on the information received by the police, they raided Arpan Apartment in Borivali.
Police arrested 4 accused
In this raid, the police arrested 4 accused. 6 laptops, 20 mobile phones, 2 WiFi routers, 6 speakers and goods worth about 2 lakh 41 thousand were recovered from them. The police have registered a case under various sections of the IT Act and the Indian Penal Code. After the arrest, all the accused were produced in the court, where they were sent to police custody till February 24. Let us tell you that through the call center, American citizens were told that there is a problem in their software. The fraudsters tell the American citizens that they are talking to Microsoft and by calling on the toll free number, their bank details are taken and all the money is cleared from the bank.
How is the fraud done
Actually, the American citizen is first called from the call center. After this, the fraudsters tell the foreign citizen that they are associated with some company and they tell that there are some problems in Microsoft Windows present in their laptop or desktop. The fraudsters tell that some problems which are coming can be fixed online, for this some payment has to be made. In this way, they take the bank details of the foreign citizens and then carry out cyber fraud.
