Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad assaulted an employee in the canteen of the MLA residence located in Akashvani premises, claiming that he was served bad food.

A case of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad assaulting an employee has come to light on Tuesday night in the canteen of the MLA residence located in Akashvani premises of Mumbai. The MLA alleges that he was served bad and smelly food, due to which he slapped the canteen employee. After this incident, not only there was a ruckus in the canteen, but there has been a stir in the political corridors as well. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde have strongly condemned this incident.

MLA Sanjay Gaikwad alleged that he was served stale rice and rotten lentils in the canteen. He said, “I have been eating here for the last five and a half years, but this has not happened for the first time. I have complained three times before this also. When I took the first bite of lentils, I felt the smell, the rice was also stale. This food was like poison.”

Controversy over MLA slapping
The MLA claimed that when he complained about this to the canteen employee, he also accepted the foul smell coming from the food. After this, Gaikwad allegedly assaulted the employee and said, I gave him prasad in my own style.

After the MLA’s complaint, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspected the canteen. Questions are being raised on the quality of food in the report, further action will be taken after investigation.

Opposition parties have reacted strongly to this act of MLA Sanjay Gaikwad. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Anil Parab raised the issue in the Legislative Council and demanded Gaikwad’s suspension. He said that such violence in public is not acceptable under any circumstances.

Uproar over slap incident, CM and Shinde said this
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also took a tough stand on this matter. He said, “I have seen the video. This behaviour is not befitting of any MLA. It hurts the dignity of the assembly. Complaining is a different thing, but assault is not acceptable,”

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) chief Eknath Shinde said, “The food served to our MLA was really bad, which made him vomit, but assault is not the right way at all. I have spoken to Sanjay Gaikwad and explained to him that such behaviour cannot be accepted in public life.” Shinde also said that if there are flaws in the canteen system, then legal action should be taken, but raising hands is not the solution.
