Mumbai: Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the first time, said on Wednesday that he is confident that he will definitely win on the basis of the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also said that this election will decide the fate of India. Goyal said during a road show, “I accept the fact that we all are involved in the Prime Minister’s protest… Gradually the public is also accepting that this is Modi’s election.”
Goyal, who is a Rajya Sabha member and managed several election campaigns, including Lal Krishna Advani’s campaign in 1989, is contesting from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat as a BJP candidate. BJP has given him a chance in place of sitting MP Gopal Shetty. Voting on this seat is to be held on May 20 and the election campaign will end on the evening of May 18.
Piyush Goyal is campaigning vigorously
With only four days left for the campaign, Goyal is visiting all the assembly constituencies falling under the Lok Sabha seat every day in his campaign vehicle. Every morning, hundreds of workers wearing saffron caps, BJP placards on their shoulders and ‘Kamal’ symbols on their clothes gather at the starting point of the road show. The workers try to fill the atmosphere with enthusiasm by raising slogans before Goyal’s arrival. Amidst the slogans of “Abki Baar 400 Paar”, drums and cymbals are played loudly.
‘Piyush ji is also there but we are voting for Modi ji’
No one doubts that the election is being fought in the name of Modi, but the work and reputation of the local candidate is also important. Ankita Jaiswal, a second year graduation student, and her sister also came to participate in the BJP road show. When she was asked why she would vote for BJP, she immediately replied, “It is for Modi ji.” Piyush ji is also there but we are voting for Modi ji.
What did Piyush Goyal say?
There are 6 assembly constituencies in Mumbai North, out of which four are occupied by BJP and one by ally Shiv Sena. Only the Muslim-dominated Malad assembly constituency is with the Congress. Goyal has expressed confidence that he will win in Malad also. Goyal said, “Minorities are also with us. They also believe that Prime Minister Modi is a leader who ensures that the benefits of the schemes reach the common man without any discrimination.
