Amidst the violence and tension in Bengal’s Murshidabad district against the Waqf Act, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given a big statement. While inaugurating the Kalighat Skywalk on Monday, she also gave a message of peace. The Chief Minister said that everyone has the right to protest peacefully with permission but do not take the law into your own hands. Do not get provoked by anyone. We have worked in many temples. Everyone has their own religion and everyone has festivals.
The Chief Minister said, when I go to the program of another religion, a lot is said. One should not play the game of unrighteousness behind religion. Religion means peace, unity, culture. If someone is hurt, we stand with everyone. The soil of Bengal is the soil of peace. Nazrul and Rabindranath Tagore both were born on this soil.
I had promised then
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Kalighat Skywalk, the Chief Minister said, “When I built the skywalk at Dakshineswar, I had promised that I will also build the Kalighat skywalk but the space here is a little less than there. The skywalk is 435 metres long and 10.5 metres wide. Religious institutions and cultural institutions attract crores of people. She also spoke of the work done by the state government for the development of various temples, mosques and gurudwaras.
Dharma means love
The Chief Minister said, “Dharma is for everyone, festivals are for everyone. We go everywhere. If I go to any other event, people write against me. We should not play the game of adharma with dharma. Dharma means love. Dharma means peace. Dharma means harmony. Dharma means unity. There can be no greater dharma than loving people.”
So why violence, why fight?
When we are born, we are born alone. When we go, we go alone. So why violence, why fighting, why unrest? Remember, if you love people you can win everything. But, if you keep yourself separate, you cannot win anyone. CM Mamata Banerjee said that when someone is hurt, whether he is exploited, neglected, deprived, persecuted or of any religion, we stand with everyone.
Do not take law in your hands
Without mentioning any incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, I will tell everyone that everyone has the right to protest peacefully with permission but do not take law in your hands. No matter who it is. There is no need for law breakers. The one who keeps a cool mind, wins.
