Bangkok: The situation in Myanmar continues to be critical. Army rule is going on here since the coup. But during this time, Myanmar’s main pro-democracy resistance group has attacked several targets in the capital on Thursday. The purpose of the attack was to make the present military regime realize its strength. Said its armed unit carried out drone attacks on the airport and a military headquarters in the capital Naypyidaw, but the country’s ruling military said it destroyed the attack drones.
The “Defense Ministry” of the opposition national unity government said in a statement that special units of the ‘People’s Defense Force’ used drones to simultaneously attack the targets. The group, known by the acronym NUG, calls itself the country’s legitimate government, while the People’s Defense Force is made up of several largely autonomous local resistance groups. The NUG said there were reports of casualties. The country’s military said it shot down seven drones and there were no reports of any casualties.
Turmoil continues since February 2021
It was not possible to independently verify most details of the attack in Myanmar. Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military seized power from the elected civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. The development sparked nationwide peaceful protests, which were forcefully suppressed by security forces, resulting in an armed resistance tantamount to civil war.
