National Conference Lok Sabha MP Ruhullah Mehdi asked Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reveal the names of the MLAs who voted against the party in the Rajya Sabha elections. Speaking to the media, MP Ruhullah said, “I have no information about who voted for whom or who cross-voted.”
The Chief Minister said he was aware of the matter. It’s important that what an MLA does with their vote be made public. Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he knew the names of almost all the MLAs who betrayed him and voted for the BJP. He said these MLAs should have the courage to openly say that they helped the BJP win one of the four Rajya Sabha seats in the Union Territory.
This is not a personal matter
MP Mehdi said the Chief Minister should name the names because it’s not a personal matter, but a public matter. The MP said, “As the Chief Minister said, if someone knows (the names of the MLAs who cross-voted), it’s not a personal matter to withhold them.” If the public’s trust and mandate have been betrayed, and public representatives have voted for the wrong forces, the Chief Minister should name them. Mehdi said that until then, all MLAs will remain under suspicion.
Why did you promise to seek votes?
The Srinagar MP, who has been angry with the National Conference (NC) for some time, said it was unfortunate that the ruling party had yet to act on the political front. MP Mehdi said, “If you weren’t going to fight, why did you promise to do so when seeking votes? If you feel weak despite such a strong mandate, then bring others along. However, the public hasn’t made you dependent on others. You have started doing what others did before the assembly elections.”
The people of Jammu and Kashmir are not dependent on the National Conference, Congress, or BJP. They will look for alternatives to fight for their survival. If any party is under the illusion that everything revolves around it, that’s not true. This is a fight for survival. If he had respected the mandate, no one would have questioned him today.
