Nepal: For the first time in the neighboring country Nepal, a ‘lesbian’ couple officially registered their marriage.

Nepal Lesbian Marriage: This is the first time in India’s neighboring country Nepal that a lesbian couple has officially got married. This is the first case of official marriage of a lesbian couple in Nepal. The couple also registered their marriage officially. According to the information, Anju Devi Shrestha alias Deepti and Supreeta Gurung created history by becoming the first ‘lesbian’ couple to officially register their marriage in Nepal.

The age of both of them who got married in lesbian marriage is 33 years. Deepti, a resident of Bardiya district in western Nepal, and Supreeta, a resident of Syangja district, registered their marriage at Jamuna Rural Municipality in Bardiya district on Sunday. Gay activist and former member of Parliament Sunil Babu Pant said that ward secretary Deepak Nepal handed him the marriage certificate.

Nepal is the first country in South Asia to do so
Pant claimed that this is the first case of a same-sex couple getting their marriage officially registered in South Asia. Nepal is also the first country in South Asia to formally register same-sex marriage. On November 29 last year, Maya Gurung (35) and Surendra Pandey (37) officially registered their marriage as the first ‘gay’ couple in Lamjung district.

Both Gurung and Pandey were male at the time of their birth.
In 2007, Nepal’s Supreme Court approved gay marriages.
In 2007, the Supreme Court of Nepal approved same-sex marriage, which was also included in the Constitution in 2015. However, on June 27 last year, the Supreme Court had issued an interim order based on a writ petition filed led by various individuals, including Gurung, to officially legalize gay marriage in Nepal.
