New Criminal Laws: Indian Justice Code (BNS) 2023, Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) 2023 and Indian Evidence Act (BSA) 2023 effective across the country from Monday, first FIR registered in this district of Bihar, 2 people also arrested, what is the matter?

Bihar: Cases have started being registered as per the sections of the new law from July 1, 2024. Police officers and police investigators in Bihar have also been trained at the ‘Bihar Police Academy Rajgir’. Now the first FIR under the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure 2023 in Bihar was registered at the railway station in Gaya district on Monday (July 01).

A case has been registered against two persons at the railway station in Gaya district under sections 313 (association with a gang of robbers and dacoits) and 317 (5) (helping to hide stolen goods) of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure. In this case registered at 11.15 am on Monday, the police have arrested two people named Rajesh Paswan and Mohit Kumar.

The Indian Code of Criminal Procedure (BNS) 2023, the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) 2023 and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA) 2023 have come into force across the country from Monday. These three laws have replaced the British era laws, Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act respectively.

What did the Additional Director General of Law and Order say?

Speaking to reporters at the Police Headquarters in Patna, Additional Director General (Law and Order) Sanjay Singh said, “Extensive preparations were made in Bihar to ensure successful implementation of the new system and seamless transition across the state. The state police is fully prepared in terms of technology, capacity building and awareness generation to effectively implement the new criminal laws in the state.”

He further said, “An FIR under the new law in the state has been registered at Gaya Railway Police Station. On the implementation of the new criminal law, a program was organized in all 1300 police stations of the state today, in which the respective station heads invited local citizens and informed them about the main features of the three new criminal laws.”
