NEW DELHI: 7 policemen including constables and head constables deployed for the security of Red Fort in the country’s capital Delhi were suspended after major negligence in the security arrangements of Red Fort in the country’s capital Delhi before 15 August (Independence Day).

Delhi Police said that a team of Special Cell conducted an exercise on Saturday, in which they entered the Red Fort premises with a dummy bomb in civil dress. At that time, the policemen deployed in the security of the Red Fort could not detect the bomb, due to which they were suspended.

Actually, the entry of the Special Cell team into the Red Fort premises with a dummy bomb shows that there was a lapse at many levels in the existing security cycle. Considering this negligence extremely serious, the Deputy Commissioner took immediate action and suspended seven policemen deployed on duty.

According to Deputy Commissioner Raja Banthia, this mock drill was done to check the security arrangements before 15th August. But the team reaching inside the fort so easily raises a big question on the security system. This matter also becomes worrisome because the Prime Minister addresses the country from the ramparts of the Red Fort every year and a large number of dignitaries and citizens are present in this ceremony.

Panic in police and security agencies

At the same time, after this matter came to light, there has been a stir in the police and security agencies. The Deputy Commissioner has instructed the concerned officials to immediately review the security arrangements and make a new plan. Also, orders were given to tighten the security cordon, re-ensure the deployment of employees and use modern technical resources.

Red Fort on the target of terrorists

In such a situation, the entire capital remains on high alert during national festivals like Independence Day. Because any kind of lapse can become a serious threat to national security. At present, along with suspension, departmental inquiry is also being conducted against the policemen.

Delhi Police has arrested 5 Bangladeshi citizens who were trying to forcibly enter the Red Fort premises. All of them are illegal immigrants. All of them are around 20-25 years old and they work as laborers in Delhi. Police has recovered some Bangladeshi documents from them. At present, they are being questioned.
