New Delhi: The meeting regarding Waqf is over. The Waqf JPC has accepted the bill by 14 votes against 11. The opposition members have been asked to give their dissent note by 4 pm today.
Owaisi’s statement came out
Assaduddin Owaisi’s statement has come out in this matter. He said, ‘Today the draft report was accepted. 14 votes were in favor and 11 votes were against it. Last night a report of more than 650 pages was given, how will we read it to anyone so quickly. We are giving a dissent note on behalf of our party and we believe that the amendment brought by the Modi government is not to save the property but to destroy it. Waqf is a place of worship for Muslims, they want to snatch it away.’
Assaduddin Owaisi said, ‘We believe that the Modi government wants to snatch the Waqf property from Muslims. The government has the majority so they got this amendment passed. Now it will go to Parliament but we will fight in Parliament. If needed, we will oppose it outside as well.’
Let us tell you that earlier, the Joint Committee (JPC) of Parliament discussing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 had accepted all the amendments proposed by the members of the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday and rejected the amendment proposals of the opposition members. Committee Chairman Jagdambika Pal had told after the meeting that the amendments accepted by the committee would make the law better and more effective. However, opposition MPs condemned the proceedings of the meeting and accused Pal of ‘overturning’ the democratic process.
Kalyan Banerjee of Trinamool Congress had said, “It was a ridiculous exercise. We were not heard. Jagdambika Pal has acted in a dictatorial manner.” At the same time, Pal rejected the allegations and said that the entire process was democratic and the opinion of the majority has been accepted.
