New Delhi: The auction of more than 600 gifts received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin today on the occasion of his birthday and will continue till October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

New Delhi: The auction of more than 600 gifts received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is starting on Tuesday on the occasion of his birthday. This auction will run till October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. From shoes and other items of Paralympic medal winners to a replica of Ram temple and a silver veena, the gifts and souvenirs received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are among those being auctioned. Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Monday that the total base price of these items to be auctioned will be around Rs 1.5 crore.

‘Price ranges from Rs 600 to Rs 8.26 lakh’
Shekhawat visited the exhibition displaying the souvenirs received by the Prime Minister at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi. Later, he told in a press conference that the base price for the auction of these gifts is decided by a government committee and the prices range from a minimum of Rs 600 to a maximum of Rs 8.26 lakh. The Culture Minister said, ‘Our Prime Minister has started a new culture of auctioning all the gifts and souvenirs he receives. He used to do this even as Chief Minister.’

‘This kind of auction is being done for the sixth time’
The minister said, ‘The gifts received by Prime Minister Modi are returned to the people through auction and the money earned from the auction is used for a noble cause ‘cleaning the Ganga’.’ Shekhawat said that such an auction is being done for the sixth time and the fund raised through this will be donated to the National Ganga Fund. This time, about 600 items received as gifts by Prime Minister Modi in the last one year will be auctioned. These gifts can be purchased by visiting pmmementos.gov.in.

The price of these items is around Rs 5.50 lakh
The items with the highest base price include badminton rackets of Paralympic bronze medalists Nitya Shri Sivan and Sukant Kadam, as well as silver medalist Yogesh Khatunia’s ‘discus’. Their base price has been fixed around Rs 5.50 lakh. Apart from shoes donated by Paralympic bronze medalists Ajit Singh and Simran Sharma and silver medalist Nishad Kumar, the base price of silver medalist Sharad Kumar’s signed cap has been kept around Rs 2.86 lakh.

Ram Darbar idol costs Rs 2.76 lakh
A replica of Ram temple worth Rs 5.50 lakh, a peacock idol worth Rs 3.30 lakh, a Ram Darbar idol worth Rs 2.76 lakh and a silver veena worth Rs 1.65 lakh are among the other items with high base prices. The gifts with the lowest base price include cotton angavastram, cap and shawl, priced at Rs 600. The auction will begin on September 17, Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, and end on October 2.
