Suspected Boko Haram extremists in northeastern Nigeria carried out a horrific attack in which at least 100 villagers were killed. This incident took place on Sunday in Tarmuwa Council area of Yobe. According to locals, more than 50 extremists came on bikes and first opened fire and then set the building on fire.
Yobe Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana said that 34 people have died in the attack. But according to local leader Jana Umar, the real number is 102. He said that many people were either buried before the arrival of the authorities or their bodies were taken to other places. Umar also said that many people are still missing and their search is going on.
One of the deadliest attacks
Taking responsibility for this attack, the extremists said that this action was taken in retaliation by the villagers for informing the security personnel about their activities. This attack is considered to be one of the deadliest attacks of last year, which reflects the growing insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria.
What is Boko Haram?
Boko Haram is an Islamic extremist group, founded in 2002. Its main objective is to implement Sharia law in Nigeria and oppose Western education. This group has killed thousands of people in the last 10 years, while millions have been displaced. Boko Haram attacks have been taking place not only in rural areas but also in schools and religious places. Due to this, there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the surrounding areas.
The Nigerian government and security forces are making many efforts to deal with this problem, but it is becoming difficult to improve the situation. Concrete steps need to be taken to provide security to local communities and prevent attacks.
