Nityanand Rai On Naxalite: The central government on Wednesday (March 26, 2025) said that there has been an 81 percent reduction in Naxalite violence in the country. At the same time, there has been an 85 percent reduction in the cases of death of civilians and security forces due to this violence.
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, while giving information in the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question, said that the government has approved a national policy and action plan in 2015 for a holistic solution to the threat of Left Wing Extremism (LWE). He said that this policy envisages a multi-dimensional strategy regarding security measures, development, rights of local communities and ensuring their rights etc.
‘Reduction in cases of Naxalite violence in 2024’
The Minister of State for Home said that as a result of the firm implementation of the policy, there has been a reduction in Naxalite violence and its geographical expansion. He said, ‘Incidents of Naxalite violence had reached its highest level of 1,936 in 2010, which came down to 374 in 2024. Thus Naxalite violence has reduced by 81 percent. The number of total deaths (civilians and security personnel) has also reduced by 85 percent during this period. It has come down from 1,005 deaths in 2010 to 150 in 2024’.
‘Total number of deaths also reduced by 26 percent’
Nityanand Rai said that Naxalite violence has reduced during the last six years. Such incidents were 501 in 2019, which has come down to 374 in 2024. Thus Naxalite violence has reduced by 25 percent in the last six years. He said that the total number of deaths of civilians and security forces has also reduced by 26 percent during this period. This figure was 202 in 2019, which has reduced to 150 in 2024.
