The Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2024 has been awarded to the Japanese organization ‘Nihon Hidankyo’. This organization has been given this award because it has tried to create a world free of nuclear weapons and through witness statements to prove that nuclear weapons should never be used again. The organization has fought a ground battle for the atomic bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee received applications from a total of 286 candidates for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, out of which 89 are organizations. Last time i.e. in the year 2023, Iranian journalist and human rights activist Nargis Mohammadi received the Nobel Prize for Peace. He is known for his work as the deputy director of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, an organization that is banned in Iran.
He has received two Nobel Prizes
Born in Portland, USA, Linus Pauling is the only person in the world to have received two Nobel Prizes. She received one Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the other for Peace. According to the official social media report of the Nobel Prize, she used quantum mechanics to understand and describe chemical bonds. Later, she campaigned vigorously against nuclear weapons and filed a petition to ban nuclear testing.

Wangari Maathai was the first female professor from Kenya and the first African woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She founded the Green Belt Movement, due to which millions of trees were planted. Apart from this, Kailash Satyarthi of India and Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan were also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2014. The first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in the year 1901 to Henry Dunant of Switzerland and Frederic Passy of France.
Who gives the Nobel Peace Prize?
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by a committee elected by the Parliament of Norway (Stortinget). The committee consists of 5 members appointed by the Norwegian Parliament, who select the winners for the prize. At the same time, along with the Nobel Prize and diploma, the winner is also given a document containing the prize money.
