Noida: Section 144 has been imposed for the next four days in Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar) adjacent to the capital Delhi. In view of Bakrid and Jyeshtha Ganga Dussehra, the police has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Noida and Greater Noida from today till Wednesday. According to the police, Section 144 has been imposed to maintain peace and harmony during the festival.
Ganga Dussehra today, Bakrid tomorrow
Let us tell you that Ganga Dussehra is being celebrated today while Bakrid is on Monday. Due to both the festivals happening almost together, the police fear that anti-social elements may spread unrest. Therefore, a decision has been taken to impose Section 144 in the district. According to the police order, public prayers, worship, processions and other religious events are completely prohibited in public places without special permission.
Applicable till June 19
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hirdesh Katheria said, “In view of the potential threat to public order from anti-social elements, the possibility cannot be ruled out that such persons may disturb the peace.” He said that in view of this, Section 144 will remain in force in Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissionerate from June 16 to 19.
What is Section 144?
Actually, Section 144 is a provision under the Indian Penal Code which is implemented to maintain peace or to avoid any emergency situation. It is implemented to prevent riots, violence, arson, assault, communal tension etc. at any place.
Ban on these things under Section 144
When Section 144 is implemented, many types of restrictions are imposed. Three or more people cannot gather at one place. Movement is prohibited in areas where Section 144 is applicable. Rally, procession, agitation and public function are banned. Also, loudspeakers are also banned. You cannot carry any kind of weapons or inflammable substances in these areas.
