Odisha: Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced that the administrative inquiry into the stampede during the Rath Yatra in Puri will be completed within the next 30 days and the report will be submitted to the Chief Minister.

Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Sunday announced that the administrative inquiry into the stampede during the Rath Yatra in Puri will be completed within the next 30 days. Three devotees died in this tragic incident, while more than 50 people were injured. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said that Development Commissioner Anu Garg is investigating the incident and will submit the report to the Chief Minister within the stipulated time limit of 30 days.

He said that strict action will be taken against the culprits responsible for this tragic incident. Puri Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Kishore Satpathy said that all the injured have been discharged from the hospital by 8 pm on Sunday after proper treatment. He said, the condition of all the patients is stable now. Confirming the death toll, he said that three people have died.

Demand for resignation of CM and Law Minister intensifies
After the stampede incident, Youth Congress workers surrounded the Chief Minister’s residence demanding resignation from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Law Minister. During the demonstration, there was a clash between the police and the protesters. When the protesters tried to break the security barricade near the Chief Minister’s residence, many people were detained.

Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party President Manmohan Samal also mourned the incident on social media and called it unfortunate. He said, “The government should be extra cautious to avoid such incidents in future, we welcome the quick decision of the Chief Minister and express condolences to the families of the deceased”. On this incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday apologized to all the devotees and said that the government is taking this matter seriously.
