Collector’s instructions after the incident

The Puri Collector termed the incident as unfortunate. Action was taken immediately after receiving the information. This drain belongs to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and encroachment has been found near it. The collector said, “We have instructed the municipality to identify all the open drains present in the city and cover them as soon as possible. Also, some municipal drains will also be included in this process. We are looking at this issue as our responsibility and will solve it on priority.”

After the incident, the local people have demanded immediate action from the administration. They say that there is a need to cover the open drains in the entire city soon, so that such incidents can be avoided in future. Local residents say that if the administration had paid attention to this problem earlier, this incident could have probably been avoided. The police and administration have intensified the investigation and every effort is being made to find out the culprits in the case.
