A major accident occurred on Saturday evening in the Buxi Bazaar area of Cuttack city, Odisha. Part of the balcony of a dilapidated building near Manisahu Chowk suddenly collapsed. Three members of the same family were killed and four others were seriously injured in the tragic accident. The incident caused widespread panic in the area. The accident occurred late Saturday evening.
Balcony Collapses
According to reports, the balcony of an old, dilapidated building near Hadibandhu School suddenly collapsed and fell down. A family standing nearby was trapped under the debris. Fire service personnel immediately launched a rescue operation to rescue those trapped under the debris. After extensive efforts, everyone was extricated and immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Three members of the same family have died. Doctors have declared three of them dead. The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Abdul Jalil, 30-year-old Abdul Zahid, and 3-year-old Abdul Mujahid. All three belonged to the same family and lived in a nearby slum. Four other people were seriously injured in the accident. They have been admitted to SCB Medical College and are undergoing treatment. Doctors say the injured are in stable condition.
CM Announces Compensation
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has expressed deep condolences over the accident. He has announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh per person from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of the deceased. The state government is also making full arrangements for the treatment of the injured. The Chief Minister has directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and ensure that such dilapidated buildings do not pose a threat to the lives of people in the city.
The building was in a dilapidated condition
It is reported that the building had been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. Demands for its repair were made several times, but no action was taken. Following the accident, questions are being raised about the administration’s role. The city is home to many old buildings that are in poor condition, yet they are being neglected.
