A heated debate was witnessed on the first day of the monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a scathing attack on the opposition over Operation Sindoor. She accused the opposition of historical negligence in the matter of national security and questioned its stand on recent military operations including Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev.
CM Rekha Gupta said, it was not just a military operation, but to honor our martyrs. She hit back at the opposition’s comments on the naming of Operation Sindoor, especially the statement made by Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan. She (Jaya Bachchan) had asked why the operation was named Sindoor. To this, the CM said, I will answer her with a film dialogue – “Ek Chutki Sindoor Ki Keemat Tum Kya Jaano?”
Jaya Bachchan had raised questions on the name of the operation
Jaya Bachchan had raised the question why India’s retaliatory action after the Pahalgam attack was named “Operation Sindoor”, while women had become widows in this incident and their vermillion was snatched away. Rekha Gupta replied to this.
CM Rekha Gupta targeted the opposition
The Chief Minister fired many questions at the opposition and cited the decisions taken by the previous governments on major issues related to national security. Targeting Priyanka Gandhi, CM Rekha Gupta said, those who do not trust their army and Prime Minister, trust other countries. If she calls me National Didi (Priyanka Gandhi), then I want to tell her that your government was in power since 1947. Your grandfather (Jawaharlal Nehru) gave away 13 thousand kilometers of area. Who will take responsibility for 1962 and 1965. Under what pressure did you mediate? What happened in 1971? 93000 Pakistanis who were held captive were released. Why didn’t you take Kashmir then? Why didn’t you ask for 54 Indians?
Taking a dig at the Congress-led India Bloc, CM Rekha Gupta said, “These leaders have formed a team, but when they speak, it is difficult to say whether they represent India, Pakistan or the US.”
Uproar in the House
Earlier, the House witnessed uproar when AAP MLA Sanjiv Jha attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Operation Sindoor. Speaker Vijender Gupta immediately intervened and objected to his choice of words and directed that they not be recorded in the record. He also ordered the marshals to “take him out”. The Speaker later confirmed that his remarks have been expunged from the proceedings of the Assembly.
Jha’s remarks came during his speech on national security, which was opposed by BJP MLAs and the Speaker warned him.
