Online Gaming Bill

On August 22, President Draupadi Murmu gave her assent to the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025. This legislation was introduced to promote e-sports and online social games, as well as to ban harmful online money gaming services, advertisements, and related financial transactions.

Sources had previously stated that those playing online money games would face no punishment; only service providers, advertisers, promoters, and those financially supporting such games would face consequences. Through this bill, the government aims to promote and legalize e-sports. This bill will help provide legal support to e-sports.

This Act imposes a nationwide ban on online gambling games. It criminalizes offering or participating in such games, whether they are games of skill or chance, and these offenses will be cognizable and non-bailable. The law seeks to ban the offering of online money games and related banking services, advertisements, and other services.
