Pakistan-Afghanistan Border: Heavy firing took place last night between Taliban-occupied Afghanistan and Pakistan. Afghanistan’s Khaama Press reported that the firing started at around 7 pm on Wednesday evening and continued till late night. This firing took place on the imaginary Durand Line in Jaji Maidan district of Khost province. During this, there are also reports of use of heavy weapons from both sides. Local sources said that Afghan soldiers are building new posts in the border areas, due to which this clash started. The border dispute between the two countries has been going on for a long time.
Khaama Press quoted local sources as saying that Afghan soldiers have been building posts near the Durand Line for the last three days. On the other hand, Mahaz News quoted local and Afghan sources as saying that the firing had stopped by late night. Locals on the Pakistan side have expressed apprehension that many people from both sides have been killed. At present, the number of people killed has not been revealed yet.
Afghanistan does not consider Durand as the border
In fact, an imaginary Durand Line separates Pakistan and Afghanistan, but no government of Afghanistan has recognized this line as the real border. For this reason, border disputes often persist between the two countries. After the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan in the year 2021, Pakistan hoped that the border dispute would end, but it did not happen.
Border dispute increased under Taliban government
After coming to power, the Taliban not only adopted the previous stance regarding the border dispute but also started staking its claim on the border areas. It is believed that the construction of security posts in the border areas is an extension of this claim. Taliban forces have also opposed the fencing of the border by Pakistan, due to which there have been many clashes between the two countries.
