Lahore: Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, a relative of Hafiz Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the Mumbai attacks in India and deputy chief of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa, died of a heart attack here on Friday. He was also responsible for the Mumbai attack. According to Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JUD), Professor Abdul Rehman Makki was ill for the last few days and was being treated for high diabetes at a private hospital in Lahore.
A JUD official told, “Makki suffered a heart attack this morning and breathed his last in the hospital.” Makki, a relative of JUD chief Hafiz Saeed, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court in 2020 in a case of financing terrorism.

The Pakistan Muttahida Muslim League (PMML) said in a statement that Makki was a supporter of Pakistani ideology. Makki was designated a global terrorist by the United Nations in 2023, subject to an asset freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.
