Pakistan, frightened by India’s tough stand after the Pahalgam terror attack, took several decisions. By calling the stopping of the Indus Water Treaty an act of war, Pakistan not only increased regional tensions but also wrote the script for its own destruction.

The tough diplomatic steps taken by India after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam have rattled Pakistan. While India accused Pakistan of supporting terrorists and took several important decisions like suspending the Indus Water Treaty, now the Shahbaz Sharif government of Pakistan has also adopted an aggressive stance by holding an emergency meeting. After the meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) in Islamabad, Pakistan has warned to respond to every decision of India.

In the NSC meeting, Pakistan made it clear that if India does not give up its aggressive attitude, it will consider cancelling all bilateral agreements including the Shimla Agreement. Pakistan says that India’s action is a violation of international laws and treaties. The Pakistani government alleged that India has taken such a step by unilaterally suspending the Indus Water Treaty which will be considered a war-like action and it will be responded to with full national force.

What happened in the meeting on the Indus Treaty?

Pakistan has completely rejected India’s decision to stop the Indus Water Treaty. It was said in the meeting that this treaty is an international agreement, which was made under the mediation of the World Bank, and India cannot suspend it unilaterally. Also, Pakistan warned that if India tries to stop or divert the water of Indus, it will be considered an act of war and it will be responded to with full force.

Pak also closed Wagah border

After the meeting, Pakistan also decided to close the Wagah border with immediate effect. All types of trade and civilian movement have been banned. Apart from this, the military, naval and air force advisors of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad have been declared ‘undesirable persons’ and have been instructed to leave the country by April 30. Also, the number of staff of the Indian High Commission has been limited to 30.

Airspace also closed for India

Pakistan has cancelled all visas issued to Indian citizens under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme with immediate effect. Only Sikh pilgrims have been exempted from this. Apart from this, Pakistan has completely closed its airspace for Indian airlines. Now no Indian plane will be able to enter Pakistan nor fly over it.

These serious allegations were made against India

Pakistan also accused India of supporting terrorism. The NSC statement said that India is using terrorism as an excuse to hide its ‘exploitation and human rights violations in Kashmir’. Citing the alleged confession of Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Pak government called India a terrorism sponsoring country and said that it has strong evidence.

Old tune played again on Kashmir issue

In the meeting, Pakistan once again talked about raising the Kashmir issue on the international platform. It said that Kashmir is an unresolved dispute between India and Pakistan and India’s recent steps can endanger regional peace. Pakistan also alleged that state-sponsored persecution against minorities, especially Muslims, is increasing in India and this can become a big threat to the stability of South Asia.
