A big change is being made in Pakistan in the month of Muharram starting this year. This initiative has been taken by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Actually, social media platform X has been blocked in Pakistan for 4 months and now after this successful ban of 4 months, the Pakistani government has decided to ban all other social media handles.
Youtube, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and many more apps like TikTok will be banned for 6 days during the month of Muharram in Pakistan. The government of Pakistan is fully prepared for this, the main objective of this ban is to ban all hate material during the month of Muharram. This ban will be imposed from July 13 to July 18.
Ban on hatred and misinformation
The proposal to ban social media has been presented by the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. While recommending this, it was said that through this, spreading hatred about culture and promoting any misinformation can be stopped to a great extent, which can avoid communal violence. Maryam Nawaz has asked the country’s Prime Minister and her uncle Shahbaz Sharif’s government to issue a notification regarding this proposal.
Many officials against social media
Even before this proposal, many officials of Pakistan have spoken against social media, including Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir. He has called social media ‘corrupt media’ and has always inspired to fight it. He has called it a fight against ‘digital terrorism’. Apart from the Army Chief, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had talked about completely banning social media, Ishaq Dar is also serving as the Foreign Minister at this time.
Even before banning all social media, X was closed in Pakistan for 4 months, the reason for this was the allegation of change in the results of Pakistan’s general elections. X was banned in the month of February this year.
