Pakistan on Monday handed over to India a list of defence personnel missing in the 1965 and 1971 wars. Also, the two countries exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other’s custody. A statement said that India and Pakistan on Monday exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other’s custody through diplomatic channels simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad.

The Foreign Office said in a statement that Pakistan also handed over a list of 38 missing Pakistani defence personnel, who are believed to be in Indian custody since the 1965 and 1971 wars.

List of civilian prisoners and fishermen
Pakistan has handed over a list of 254 Indian or civilian prisoners and fishermen believed to be Indian in Pakistani jails, while India has handed over a list of 452 Pakistani or civilian prisoners and fishermen believed to be Pakistani in Indian jails. Under the provisions of the bilateral agreement of 2008, such lists are exchanged every year on January 1 and July 1.

Appeal for release of Pakistani prisoners
The Foreign Office said that the government has urged the immediate release and deportation of all Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentence in India. The Foreign Office said that under the efforts of the government, the return of 62 Pakistani prisoners in 2023 and four in the current year has been ensured so far.
