United Nations: Pakistan is repeatedly misusing this global platform by raising the Kashmir issue in the United Nations and spreading lies. In such a situation, this time India has strongly played the band of Pakistan. In front of the United Nations, India has strongly reprimanded Pakistan for using the UN platform to spread lies. India criticized Islamabad and said that no kind of propaganda will change the facts on the ground. Addressing the general debate of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on questions related to information, Rajya Sabha member Rajiv Shukla on Tuesday emphasized that inclusive access to information is necessary to promote trust, accountability and good governance.
He said, “A (Pakistani) delegation has once again used this prestigious platform to spread lies. It is the habit of this delegation to resort to propaganda and misinformation.” After Pakistan raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue, giving a strong reply in the UN debate, Shukla said, “Let me clarify. Real democracies work differently. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have voted in record numbers in the recently concluded free and fair elections.” Assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases from September 18 to October 1.
Pakistan’s lies exposed
Shukla said, “No amount of propaganda and misinformation will change the facts on the ground. I urge this delegation to engage more constructively in this platform instead of using it for its divisive, political agenda.” The Congress leader is part of a delegation of 12 MPs from India to attend various events at the United Nations. Shukla said that India, which follows the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, emphasizes that information should be beyond the barriers of nationality, gender, religion or culture. He said, “An informed citizen plays an important role in combating misinformation, curbing corruption and holding governments accountable.”
Pakistan is spreading misleading information
The MP said that in line with democratic values, India believes in empowering people through reliable information for the collective progress of humanity. Shukla underlined that misinformation and disinformation pose serious risks, reduce trust in public institutions and divide communities. Regarding the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, Shukla said that India is concerned about the safety of UN peacekeepers in the area of deployment. He said, “We underline the importance of this important issue and urge the Department of Global Communications (DGC) to work closely with the regional mission and prepare its communication strategies accordingly to address it.”
He said that continuing to make peacekeeping websites in local languages would be a useful step to further expand the reach of this information. Shukla said, “The success of the United Nations social media account in Hindi, which is being followed by a large number of people, underlines the importance of contact in diverse languages. Expanding such efforts will enhance global inclusiveness and promote broader engagement with communities in their native languages.
