March was taken out by changing the route
Karachi Police said in a press release that the religious-political party Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM) had called for a rally. Senior police officer Asad Raza said that the protesters tried to march towards the US Consulate located on Mai Kolachi Road by deviating from the prescribed route. Police officer Raza said, “When the police tried to stop them and reminded them of the route decided for peaceful protest, some of them became violent and started pelting stones at the police. Some policemen were injured in the stone pelting by the protesters.”
Police fired tear gas shells
Eyewitnesses said that many protesters changed the route and when they moved towards the US Consulate from the ‘Native Jetty Bridge’, the police stopped them. Later, tear gas shells were fired and lathicharge was done to disperse them. Reporters covering the rally in Karachi said that the protesters also beat up and injured some journalists and photographers. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Sunday condemned the attacks by Israel on civilians in West Asia.
