Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement that the Additional Foreign Secretary (West Asia and Afghanistan) conveyed Pakistan’s “strong objections” to the joint statement’s reference to Jammu and Kashmir. The Foreign Office said, “It was pointed out that describing Jammu and Kashmir as part of India is a clear violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”

Afghanistan Condemns Pahalgam Attack
According to the joint statement, Afghanistan strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April and expressed condolences and solidarity with the people and government of India. According to the statements by India and Afghanistan, both sides unequivocally condemned all acts of terrorism emanating from regional countries and stressed the importance of promoting peace, stability, and mutual trust in the region.

Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit, following a temporary waiver of the UN travel ban, marks the first official visit by a senior Afghan leader since the Taliban came to power in 2021. Friday’s meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar featured in-depth discussions on strengthening bilateral relations, increasing trade, healthcare facilities, and regional stability. The Indian Foreign Ministry described it as a “positive step for regional peace.”
