New Delhi: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has adopted a tough stance against Pakistan. The Indian government has instructed Pakistani citizens to leave India. If any Pakistani citizen fails to leave India within the deadline set by the Indian government, he will be arrested. Apart from this, such people will be prosecuted and may face a jail term of up to three years or a maximum fine of Rs 3 lakh or both.

What is the deadline for Pakistani citizens to leave India? The deadline for those holding SAARC visa to leave India was 26 April (Saturday). The deadline for those holding medical visa is 29 April (Tuesday). There are 12 categories of visas whose holders will have to leave India.

How much fine will Pakistani citizens have to pay?

According to the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, which came into force on April 4, overstaying, violating visa conditions or unauthorized entry into restricted areas can lead to three years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 3 lakh.

It is worth noting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah called the Chief Ministers of all the states on Friday (April 25) and asked them to ensure that no Pakistani citizen stays in India beyond the stipulated time limit for leaving the country.

Why is strictness being done on Pakistani citizens?

Recently there was a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. 26 people were killed in this attack. After this, India opened a front against Pakistan and suspended the Indus Water Treaty. Apart from this, the Government of India had asked Pakistani citizens to leave India.

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, 537 Pakistani citizens have left India, while 850 Indian citizens have returned from Pakistan.

A horrific terrorist attack took place on 22 April in Baisaran, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The day after this attack, the Indian government ordered Pakistani citizens to leave the country by 27 April. Along with this, the Indian government took many big steps against Pakistan. Sunday was the last day for Pakistani citizens to leave India. From 24 April to 27 April, i.e. in these four days, a total of 537 Pakistani citizens, including 9 diplomats and officials, left India from the Attari-Wagah border.

Order to leave India for short-term visa holders of 12 categories

According to officials, 850 Indian citizens also used the Attari border to return to India from Pakistan during this period. 26 people were killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, including a Nepali citizen. The Indian government had issued orders for 12 categories of short-term visa holders to leave India. Officials said that a total of 237 Pakistani citizens, including 9 diplomats and officials, left India through the Attari-Wagah border crossing on Sunday. At the same time, 81 citizens left on April 26, 191 citizens on April 25 and 28 citizens on April 24.

Similarly, 116 Indians, including a diplomat, returned from Pakistan by crossing the international border on Sunday. 342 Indians, including 13 diplomats and officials, returned on April 26. 287 Indians crossed the border on April 25 and 105 Indians returned on April 24.

Pakistani citizens also took the airport route to leave India

Arun Mahal, protocol officer posted at the Attari border, said that between April 24 and 27, a total of 537 Pakistani citizens left for Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border, while 850 Indian citizens returned from Pakistan. However, some Pakistani nationals were also said to have used the airport to leave India. Officials said that since India does not have direct air connectivity with Pakistan, they may have gone to other countries.
