ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday rejected the idea of forming a coalition government with any major political party in the country and claimed that there were people involved in converting black money into white on a large scale. Efforts are being made to bring him to power. Khan, 71, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, spoke to reporters in the high-security Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. Khan and many of his party associates have been in jail for several months due to conviction in various cases.
In the elections held on February 8 in Pakistan, independent candidates won 101 seats in the 266-member assembly, most of which were candidates supported by PTI. Others: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won 75 seats and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won 54 seats.
A coalition government seems inevitable in the country because no single party has got majority in the National Assembly. A situation of hung parliament may arise in Pakistan. Talks have been going on between Sharif’s PML-N and PPP for two days. At the same time, efforts are being made to bring independent candidates into our fold and it is believed that this work will be done easily.
Khan said there would be no talks with PML-N, PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) but he expressed willingness to contact all other parties and groups.
He said, “There can be no alliance with PML-N, PPP and MQM.” He has directed PTI Information Secretary Rauf Hasan to bring together all the parties except these three parties.
Khan also alleged that the elections were rigged and said that this would increase instability in the country and have a negative impact on the economy. He said that free and transparent elections are the only solution.
He alleged, “Such election fraud has never happened in the history of the country.”
Khan alleged, “An effort is being made to bring the money laundering group to power. Sharif’s family is the biggest accused of money laundering in the country. He said that the biggest problem of the country is the dollar and alleged that the Sharif family sends dollars abroad.
Geo news portal quoted Khan as saying, ‘The people who have been brought (into the regime) are the biggest accused of money laundering.’
The PTI founder claimed that both Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz lost the elections and said, “We are the first party to challenge the election results.” We will also approach the Supreme Court against the election results.
Cricketer-turned-politician Khan said that when Nawaz Sharif postponed his press conference, he knew that his party had lost the election. When Khan was asked whether his party would form the government in the state or at the Centre, he said that his party would challenge the election results first.
