Former Prime Minister of India and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Devegowda has made a big statement in Parliament. During the winter session of Parliament, former PM Devegowda said that Parliament should consider whether reservation should be given on the basis of caste or it should be changed to economic basis. After this demand of former PM Devegowda, the discussion on the issue of reservation has started once again.

What did HD Devegowda say?

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Devegowda was participating in the discussion on the topic ’75 years of glorious journey of the Constitution of India’ in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. During this discussion, HD Devegowda expressed his opinion on the reservation system. The former PM said- “Whatever happened in the past, the House itself will have to consider whether we should give reservation in this country on the basis of poverty.”

Deve Gowda made a big demand

Former PM Deve Gowda said in Parliament- “People are suffering even from the reservation that we have given in the past and it has not uplifted those who are still struggling for two meals a day.” Deve Gowda said that the House should consider whether reservation should be continued on the same lines as before or priority should be given only to those who are struggling the most with poverty and whose standard of living is poor.

PM Modi can consider- Deve Gowda

In the Rajya Sabha, former PM Deve Gowda said- “If the House and the leaders consider it, then the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) can consider it before taking any decision on reservation.” Deve Gowda said that the Constitution prepared by Babasaheb Ambedkar has stood the test of time.
