Due to Hurricane Helen, heavy rains and strong storms have been seen in the south-eastern regions of America. At least 64 people died on Saturday in incidents related to this. Many people are reported to be injured. Hurricane ‘Helen’ has caused widespread destruction in the area. Houses, shops, buildings, trees and poles are uprooted at many places.
Due to heavy rains, people are still stranded in the middle of the road and lakhs of people are living in the dark without electricity. Janalaya England, a resident of Steinhatchee, Florida, said, “I have never seen so many people homeless as I am seeing now.” Hurricane Helen made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend village late Thursday night and at that time winds were blowing at a speed of 225 kilometers per hour. After this the storm turned towards Georgia. Hurricane Helen caused torrential rains in Carolina and Tennessee, although the storm has now weakened there.
Landslide in North Carolina
Traffic on Interstate 40 and other roads has been blocked due to landslides and floods in various parts of western North Carolina. The National Hurricane Center said that Hurricane Helen has now become a post-tropical cyclone. It is likely to reach Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday. Hurricane Helen has killed people in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, out of which at least 25 people have died in South Carolina.
