Both these countries honored the Prime Minister with their highest honor. After 17 years, an Indian Prime Minister visited Nigeria. At the same time, after about 50 years, an Indian PM visited Guyana for the first time. PM Modi was given a guard of honor in Guyana.

PM Modi reached Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on Sunday morning on a five-day visit to three countries. This was the first Nigerian visit of an Indian Prime Minister after 17 years. PM Modi visited Nigeria on the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Nigeria honored PM Modi with the highest honor ‘The Grand Commander of the Order of Niger’. PM Modi said that he is feeling very proud to receive this honour. PM Modi discussed with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on promoting partnership between the two countries in various fields including trade and investment.

Apart from this, PM Modi also addressed the Indian community. Prime Minister Modi said that India is the mother of democracy, while Nigeria is the largest democracy in Africa. Both our countries have similarities in democracy. Both our countries have similarities in diversity. Both our countries have the energy of demography. He said that today many companies of India are giving strength to the entire economy of Nigeria. The Indian community is working shoulder to shoulder for the development of Nigeria and this is the biggest strength of the people of India.

Participated in G-20 summit in Brazil

After completing his tour of Nigeria, PM Modi reached Brazil. PM Modi participated in the G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. During this, PM Modi met many leaders including the Presidents of Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Prime Minister Modi discussed many important issues with all these leaders. Apart from this, PM Modi also met Italy’s Prime Minister Georgia Meloni. During the G20 Summit, the PM spoke to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and praised Brazil’s various efforts during its presidency of the G20. Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden also reached Brazil to attend this conference.

After Nigeria and Brazil, PM Modi reached Guyana on Wednesday. PM Modi was warmly welcomed in Guyana. Modi was given a formal welcome and guard of honor in Georgetown, Guyana. This was the first visit of an Indian head of state to Guyana in more than 50 years. He met the leaders of Caribbean partner countries on the sidelines of the India-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) summit. PM Modi held bilateral talks with Guyana President Irfan Ali. After this, both the countries signed five important agreements to enhance their relations in various fields. PM Modi also addressed the Parliament of Guyana.

On the occasion of the second Caricom summit, Modi met President Chan Santokhi (Suriname) and President Dr. Mohammad Irfan Ali (Guyana) and his six counterparts Philip J. Pierre (St. Lucia), Gaston Brown (Antigua and Barbuda), Deacon Mitchell (Grenada), Philip Brave Davis (Bahamas), Mia Amor Mottley (Barbados) and Dr. Keith Rolle (Trinidad and Tobago).
